As we walk along its stone ramparts, run your hand over centuries-old bricks and look out across a skyline where modern high-rises meet ancient rooftops, you’ll feel history and the present collide in the most captivating way. It’s easy to imagine the grandeur of Chang’an coming back to life around you. As evening approaches, we dive into the lively atmosphere of the Muslim Quarter. This buzzing food street is more than just a place to eat – it’s a living museum of local culture. Sink your teeth into a freshly made roujiamo (Chinese-style burger) or cool things down with a bowl of tangy liangpi noodles. Just don’t eat too much too fast – the temptation here is endless! Tonight is yours to enjoy at your own pace. We recommend heading to the Drum Tower. Illuminated after dark, it glows against the night sky, framed by streams of headlights below – a perfect snapshot of Xi’an’s timeless blend of old and new.

Today, we set out on a powerful journey that spans more than 2,000 years, diving deep into the military might and ambition of the Qin Empire. This morning, we visit the legendary Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Museum, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. Stepping into Pit 1 is an unforgettable moment – ranks of warriors stand frozen in formation, their silent presence almost overwhelming. Look closely and you’ll notice no two figures are the same: each face, hairstyle and suit of armour is unique. This isn’t just an archaeological site – it’s a window into the vision and determination behind China’s first unified empire. Our local guide will bring the story to life, revealing the history, secrets and extraordinary discoveries behind the Terracotta Army. In the afternoon, we travel just 10 kilometres to Huaqing Palace, where the atmosphere shifts from imperial power to Tang Dynasty elegance. Here, amid tranquil gardens and historic hot springs, it’s easy to imagine the refined and indulgent life of the Tang court. This evening, you may choose to attend one of China’s most spectacular outdoor performances, The Song of Everlasting Sorrow. As Mount Li is illuminated and mist rises from the hot springs, the legendary love story unfolds across the landscape itself – a moving, immersive experience that lingers long after the final scene.

This morning, there’s no need to rush – allow yourself to wake naturally and let your body and mind ease into the rhythm of a city that has been the heart of thirteen dynasties. In the afternoon, we’ll step through the doors of history at the Shaanxi History Museum, often called the “Pearl of the Ancient Capital, Treasure of China.” Here, the collection isn’t just artifacts – it’s the most brilliant chapters of Chinese civilization brought to life. You’ll come face to face with the very figures from history textbooks: from the solemn bronze ritual vessels of the Bronze Age, to the vivid terracotta warriors of Qin Shi Huang’s unified empire, to the dazzling gold and silver treasures from the height of the Silk Road. When Chang’an was the center of the world, this was where the East’s finest wonders converged. Stand before a gilded beast-head agate cup that has shone for millennia, or examine the exquisite dragon-tiger clasp of an empress’s seal, and you’ll feel the heartbeat of the ancient craftsmen across time – an experience like no other. As evening falls, we head to the Datang Everbright City Walking Street. When the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is bathed in light, the entire street transforms into a glittering Tang-era avenue. Here, you’ll encounter people in traditional costumes, enjoy lavish flower-car parades, and watch Tang-style dance performances. History here is no longer behind glass – it’s a living stage you can see, touch, and be part of.

After three days immersed in the culture of the ancient capital, today we step into a powerful dialogue between courage and nature on a journey to Mount Huashan. This is the most physically demanding day of the trip – but also the one with the greatest rewards. Known as “the most precipitous mountain under heaven,” Huashan more than lives up to its reputation. Today, we explore a geological wonder shaped over millions of years, tracing with our footsteps the sharp, dramatic lines found in China’s most striking landscape paintings. We ascend via the West Peak Cable Car, often called the longest and most spectacular cableway in Asia, then hike across all five main peaks before descending by cable car from the North Peak. When you finally stand atop the South Peak, gazing out over layered mountains fading into the distance and the Yellow River threading through the land below, it all becomes clear – Huashan offers more than breathtaking scenery. It delivers a profound sense of achievement, where overcoming fear leaves you feeling as vast and unstoppable as the landscape itself.

Today is yours to enjoy at your own pace – a chance to slow down, soak it all in and fill in the last pieces of the city’s story, or tick off any flavours still lingering on your wish list. If you’re drawn to calligraphy or stone carving, consider a visit to the Beilin Museum, often described as the sacred hall of Chinese calligraphic art. For those interested in Buddhism, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is well worth the climb – this iconic tower was overseen by the monk Xuanzang to preserve the Buddhist scriptures he brought back from India. Alternatively, you might choose to mark the end of the journey with a feast full of local character at Yongxingfang, a living museum of Shaanxi’s intangible cultural heritage.
