Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Chengdu

Welcome to Chengdu, famously known as the Land of Abundance! If you arrive early, take some time to wander the nearby streets, sip a cup of tea, and soak in the city’s famously relaxed pace. At 2:00 PM, we’ll gather at the hotel for a welcome meeting – a chance to meet your fellow travellers and get an overview of the journey ahead. Afterward, there’s free time to explore. We recommend a visit to the Wuhou Shrine, both a sacred site for Three Kingdoms culture and one of Chengdu’s most iconic historical landmarks. For dinner, we’ll head to a beloved street-side hotpot restaurant, diving into a steaming feast of numbing, spicy, and savory flavours – the perfect introduction to Chengdu’s legendary cuisine. Later, if you’re drawn to lantern-lit streets and traditional charm, take a stroll along Jinli Ancient Street, where the glow of the evening lanterns adds a magical touch to the historic lanes.

  • If you’re not used to spicy food, let your leader know in advance so the heat of the hotpot can be adjusted to your taste.
Day 2 Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Step into the day at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in the gentle morning light — truly the best way to start your day. Mornings are when the pandas are at their most playful: watch them lazily munch bamboo or clumsily clamber about. Head straight to the nursery to see the tiniest cubs — even a single tumble is enough to melt every heart. For lunch, we’ve chosen the legendary Chen Mapo Tofu. When that steaming Mapo Tofu arrives, the aroma of Sichuan peppercorns and chili hits first. Scoop it over rice, and you’ll taste the silky tofu, the fragrant minced pork, the rich doubanjiang, and that signature tingling ma that dances across your palate. Paired with the fiery red oil of Fuqi Feipian or the sweet-and-sour lychee notes of Kung Pao Chicken, you’ll begin to understand the true essence of Sichuan cuisine: each dish has its own character, and each flavour its own story. In the afternoon, soak up the real rhythm of Chengdu at People’s Park. Bamboo chairs, wooden tables, the hum of locals — sip a cup of tea, watch aunties and uncles chatting or playing cards, and feel time slow down. You might even feel tempted to try a Caier experience yourself — a traditional Chinese ear-cleaning ritual. As night falls, make your way to Jianshe Road Snack Street and follow your senses through the lively stalls, sampling authentic local bites and soaking up the city’s after-dark energy.

Day 3Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum

This morning, enjoy a slow start and sleep in, soaking up the essence of Chengdu’s laid-back lifestyle. When you’re ready, head to Kuixinglou Street to dive into a buzzing world of local eats and flavours. At local favourite Ye Popo, sample bobo chicken and discover the magic of cold heat — ingredients soaked through with chilled red oil and vine pepper broth, refreshing yet electric. Then pop next door for a bowl of dandan noodles and face the punch of dry heat. As minced pork, chilli oil and sesame paste cling to every strand, you’ll understand why this humble dish reigns supreme. By now, you’ve completed all four pillars of Chengdu’s chilli universe. In the afternoon, we visit the Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum for a deeper look at the origins and soul of Sichuan food culture. Watch traditional cooking techniques up close — but the real highlight comes when you step into the kitchen yourself. Under expert guidance, you’ll prepare a classic dish such as Kung Pao Chicken or Mapo Tofu. The moment you balance those flavours with your own hands, the “magic” of Sichuan cuisine clicks into place. Best of all, dinner is what you cook.

Day 4Mount Qingcheng

Today, you’ll venture beyond the city to visit two of Chengdu’s UNESCO-listed icons: Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Mount Qingcheng. First up is Dujiangyan – an ancient feat of engineering that still feels mind-blowing today. Built more than 2,200 years ago without modern machinery, this ingenious water-control system is still in use, quietly protecting the Chengdu Plain from flooding. Then it’s on to Mount Qingcheng, one of the birthplaces of Taoism. Expect a refreshingly calm atmosphere, lush greenery and crisp mountain air – it’s no wonder the Chinese say, ‘Qingcheng is the most tranquil place under heaven.’ We’ll take a cable car halfway up (saving our legs), then walk through forested trails to discover centuries-old Taoist temples hidden among the trees.

Day 5Jinsha Site Museum

Today is the final day of your Chengdu journey. In the morning, we’ll head to the Jinsha Site Museum, the ruins of the ancient Shu kingdom and the starting point of Chengdu’s urban civilization. Stand above the real archaeological digs and watch the golden “Sun Bird” foil shimmer in the soil, a striking testament to the Shu people’s genius in turning gold and belief into eternal totems. The discoveries here beautifully continue the legend of Sanxingdui, writing a brilliant new chapter in the story of Shu civilization. The afternoon is entirely yours to explore as you wish. Add the final brushstrokes to your Chengdu adventure: wander through Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road for cutting-edge fashion, boutique shopping, street photography, and exquisite afternoon tea; step into Wenshu Monastery to escape the city’s bustle amid incense-filled halls; or catch a performance at the Shufeng Yayun Theatre, marveling at the ever-changing Sichuan opera face-changing, with the rhythmic drums and cymbals bringing the vibrant culture of the region to a spectacular finale.
