Where Fire Meets the Mountains: A 5-Day Yi Culture Journey in Liangshan

Nihao! After arriving in Xichang today, our first stop will be the ancient city of Jianchang, which boasts a rich history of over a thousand years. Here, you will experience the vibrant culture of the Yi people. In the evening, we will go to the Torch Square to watch the Ahreniu Live Scene Fire Show , which tells the most captivating ancient Yi legends through fire, music, and dance.

On the second day, we will visit Dashiban Ancient Village, a settlement of the Yi people, preserving rich Yi traditional culture. You’ll have the chance to change into traditional Yi costumes for photos. In the afternoon, we will visit Qionghai Lake, the second largest natural freshwater lake in Sichuan, formerly known as Qiongchi, enjoying a leisurely time with the breeze blowing gently and the sunlight shining cozily.

There’s an old saying: “You haven’t truly been to Liangshan if you haven’t been to Zhaojue.” Zhaojue is the county with the largest Yi population. Today, we will visit the Boshiwahe Rock Paintings, where vivid depictions of ancient Yi life can still be seen. In the afternoon, we will return to Xichang to explore a lacquerware workshop (a form of intangible cultural heritage) and the Liangshan Yi Slave Society Museum, where you can gain a deeper understanding of Yi history. In the evening, we’ll take a leisurely stroll along MingDian Street and sample Yi delicacies.

Today we will travel to Luoji Mountain in Puge. We will soak in the Luoji Mountain Ninety-Nine Mile Hot Spring , which boasts the world's largest hot spring waterfall certified by Guinness World Records. The area preserves remarkable relics of the Quaternary glaciers. It is both a natural museum of geological wonders and an important setting for Yi intangible cultural heritage. The hot spring water cascades down from a natural cliff. In the evening, we will return to Xichang by car.

Today, we will take the high-speed train from Xichang back to Chengdu. When the train arrives at its destination, this in-depth cultural tour of the Liangshan Yi ethnic group will officially end. We believe that the unique experiences of the ancient city, villages, rock paintings, and hot springs will become a vivid part of your memories.
