Today, you’ll explore three of Shanghai’s most iconic slices of time and culture. In the morning, stroll beneath the plane trees of the former French Concession, where elegant villas, hidden art galleries, and quaint cafés paint a picture of the city’s leisurely, cosmopolitan side. By afternoon, immerse yourself in the classical beauty of Yuyuan Garden, a “city forest” of pavilions, rockeries, and winding waterways that reflect centuries of literati culture. Beyond its gates, the bustling lanes of the surrounding market and the aroma of freshly made snacks bring history vividly to life. As evening falls, the day reaches its climax along the Bund. Wander past the legendary “international architecture museum” lining the river, while across the Huangpu River, the futuristic skyscrapers of Lujiazui gradually light up. Today, we’ll explore Huangshan, China’s “Number One Marvelous Mountain,” whose beauty goes far beyond sheer grandeur or rugged peaks. Upon arrival, a cable car ascends into the realm of legends, soaring above emerald forests and granite giants piercing the sky. After checking into a mountaintop hotel for a brief respite, the afternoon unfolds on the trail of the Xihai Grand Canyon — a masterpiece of nature carved into sheer cliffs, labyrinthine ravines, and serpentine stone stairways clinging to precipitous slopes, offering some of Huangshan’s most awe-inspiring vistas. As daylight softens, ascend to the Bright Summit Peak, the mountain's second-highest point, where sunset ignites the peaks in molten gold and a boundless sea of clouds swirls beneath — an ethereal scene that has inspired poets and painters for centuries.

- It’s a good idea to turn in early tonight — we’ll rise before dawn at 5 a.m. to walk up to Bright Summit Peak and witness the legendary Huangshan sunrise.
Before dawn, we’ll set off about an hour ahead of sunrise, following the faint glow of our flashlights on a 15-minute walk up to Bright Summit Peak, Huangshan’s second-highest peak. Here, you’ll witness the legendary Huangshan sunrise, often hailed as the “world’s most spectacular sunrise”: first light spills across the sky, painting the rolling sea of clouds in fiery gold and crimson, while jagged peaks rise like islands floating on a golden ocean — a breathtaking natural masterpiece. After sunrise, we head to the Beihai Scenic Area, famed for its strange pines and dramatic rock formations. You’ll have plenty of time to explore at your own pace, getting up close to iconic sights such as “Dreaming of a Brush Blossoming” and “Monkeys Gazing at the Sea”, fully immersing yourself in Huangshan’s otherworldly charm. In the afternoon, we bid farewell to the mountains and take a high-speed train of around three hours to Hangzhou, often called “Paradise on Earth.” The evening is entirely yours — explore the city, sample authentic Hangzhou cuisine, or simply enjoy the gentle, vibrant atmosphere of the city at night.

At midday, we move to a rustic farmhouse tucked beside the Longjing tea fields. In the open courtyard surrounded by tea plants, enjoy a meal that celebrates the local harvest: Longjing Shrimp, where tender river prawns are infused with the fresh fragrance of spring tea, and Tea-Scented Chicken, slow-cooked to release its subtle tea aroma — a true taste of the region. In the afternoon, venture into the heart of the Longjing tea-producing area. Pick the tender spring shoots, or “one bud, one leaf,” with your own hands, and watch skilled heritage tea masters at work, tossing, pressing, and layering leaves with practiced precision. On arrival, you’ll be transferred to your city-centre hotel to check in and relax, easing into the gentle pace of life in Yunnan. The afternoon is all about discovering Kunming’s easygoing charm and love affair with flowers. Begin at Cui Lake, the city’s green heart, where locals gather to stroll, chat and enjoy the scenery. In winter, thousands of red-billed gulls arrive from afar, adding life and movement to the tranquil lakeside setting. Next, head to Dounan Flower Market, widely known as the “Flower Capital of Asia.” As Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest fresh-cut flower market, it’s a sensory overload of colour, scent and energy. Watch traders move vast quantities of blooms at remarkable speed and enjoy the uniquely local experience of buying flowers by the kilo. You might even pick up a bouquet to carry a little of Kunming’s floral spirit with you. The evening is free to explore at your own pace. We recommend a visit to Nanqiang Street, a lively hub of street food and local nightlife. From bubbling bowls of douhua rice noodles to tangy Dai-style cold dishes, it’s the perfect place to sample Kunming’s flavours and round off the day.

Take in the distant silhouette of the Sleeping Beauty on Western Hills mirrored in the lake, and feel the expansive vitality of this highland waterbody. In the afternoon, board a comfortable high-speed train to Dali, the famed land of wind, flowers, snow and moon. Upon arrival, your local guide will escort you to a characterful lakeside guesthouse on Erhai Lake. Today is entirely free — the pace is yours to set. For a quiet day, slip into a tucked-away café, order a cup of locally grown Yunnan coffee, and watch sunlight dance across the ancient rooftops. Let the lingering spirit of the Tea Horse Road slowly ease you into relaxation. If you prefer to stretch your legs, climb Lion Hill for panoramic views of layered grey-tiled roofs and the distant silhouette of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, or visit the Mu Palace, known as the “Forbidden City of Lijiang,” where majestic architecture and courtyards tell the story of the Naxi people. If you feel fit and acclimated, you can hike further along the boardwalk to the 4,680-meter milestone, coming face-to-face with millennia-old glaciers and the sharp ridges of the mountain. Remember to pace yourself — every breath of this highland landscape is worth savoring. After descending by cable car, we’ll board the scenic area shuttle to the “sapphire” of the mountain — Blue Moon Valley. In the morning, we’ll make our way to the breathtaking Tiger Leaping Gorge. The 1.5-hour journey takes you through increasingly dramatic mountain scenery, setting the stage for the canyon’s breathtaking grandeur. Upon arrival, board a sightseeing shuttle to reach Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge. Stroll along the flat viewing boardwalk and witness the Jinsha River roaring through a narrow 20-meter chasm, squeezed between the snow-capped Jade Dragon and Haba Mountains at the legendary “Tiger Leaping Rock.” The thunderous water and splashing rapids create an unforgettable sensory experience — be sure to pause and capture this epic moment of nature. In the early morning, we head to the highest point of the old town — Guishan Park. At this hour, the park is especially peaceful. Join early-rising locals to collectively turn the world’s largest gilded prayer wheel, a quiet moment of devotion and calm that resonates deeply within. Next, we explore Shangri-La Farmers Market, just outside the old town, like locals do. This lively market is full of everyday colour — freshly foraged matsutake mushrooms, hefty yak legs, vibrant medicinal herbs, and hand-crafted copperware. More than a market, it’s a window into the most authentic and vibrant side of Shangri-La. In the afternoon, we visit the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism in the region: Songzanlin Monastery, dramatically set against the hillside and often called the “Little Potala Palace.” With a knowledgeable local guide, this is far more than a surface visit. Learn the symbolism of the mythical creatures along the temple eaves, uncover the stories within ancient murals, and gain insight into the wisdom and compassion embodied in each sacred statue. This is a moment for reflection — a deeper journey into faith, art, and the spiritual strength of the Tibetan plateau. As evening falls and the daytime bustle fades, Dukezong Ancient Town reveals a different kind of magic. We recommend a relaxed, self-guided walk through the old town at night — a time for stories, soft lights, and simply being present in the moment.
